You wouldn't steal a car.

But if you damage a car and can't locate the owner, you are still obligated to pay.

Pay Your Debt

You wouldn't swipe a wallet.

But if you're holding onto a forgotten loan and can't find the person, you still owe.

Pay Your Debt

You wouldn't rob a cash register.

But if you overcharged a customer who never came back, the money is still not yours.

Pay Your Debt

You wouldn't have a food fight.

But if you stained someone's clothing and can't find them, you still have a chiyuv to pay.

Pay Your Debt

You owe an unknown person money.
Now what?

Nechdal has you covered.

Founded by Gedolei HaPoskim in Eretz Yisrael, Nechdal is an organization that provides a way to compensate those who we owe money to (and want to pay!) but simply don’t know who it’s owed to, through the concept of "Zachin L'adam Shelo B'fanav".

Step 1

Deposit funds

Deposit the amount you owe to Nechdal's Beis Din. Nechdal then halachically sets aside the funds for the affected party.

Step 2

Generate zechusim

Until the owner is found, Nechdal lends this money interest-free to those who are in need. This generates zechusim for you and the affected party.

Step 3

Get a kaparah

You are considered debt-free and if the owner is not found, the funds will be physically transferred to them when Moshiach comes.
Why Nechdal?

It may be unknown, but it’s certainly not uncommon.

Yom Kippur cannot atone for unpaid debt… and if we’re like 95% of the population? Chances are high that we’ve borrowed money or items and forgotten to return it. Perhaps we misplaced a package meant for somebody else, or maybe we borrowed some money from a few people here or there. No matter how careful we are, even the most yashrusdig yid might owe a small sum without knowing it!

Through the concept of “zachin l’adam,” money is placed into Nechdal’s unique fund. This amount is set aside for those who are owed it until the arrival of Eliyahu HaNavi, who will return the funds to their rightful owners.

Nechdal: The Halachic Solution

“It will be difficult to get an audience with Eliyahu HaNavi upon the arrival of Moshiach.
However, if someone says, ‘I have deposited funds to be distributed properly upon the arrival of Eliyahu’, then he will be allowed to meet the Navi.

Eliyahu will allow him to enter to discuss the matter of the funds owed, and he will direct him to the proper owner of the funds. Those who have no funds set aside will not get the opportunity to meet with him to discuss the proper allocation.”
